MEDICARE ENROLLMENT OPTIONS
Automatic enrollment - If receiving Social Security benefits at least four months before you turn age 65, the first day of your birthday month marks the day you’re enrolled in Medicare (Part A) and (Part B). Medicare coverage begins the first day of the previous month of your birthday if your birthday falls on first of the month
Self Enrollment - Sign up during your seven-month initial enrollment period (IEP). Begins three months before your 65th birthday and ends three months after, 7-month enrollment window. (Medicare Card mailed 100 days before 65th birthday)

In Person: Schedule appointment with local SSA office.
Rules on enrolling into a Medicare health plan;

Have Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance).

Live in the service area of the plan you want to join.

Be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the U.S.

Complete an enrollment request during a valid election period.
Enrolling after age 65 – Expectation to delay signing up for Medicare (Part A) and (Part B) is when no longer have an employer sponsored health plan that has 20 employees or more. You have an eight months to signup after you loose creditable healthcare coverage.
Medicare Enrollment Periods

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): There is a 7-month window (3 months before, the month of, and 3 months after) your 65th birthday to sign up for Medicare.

Annual Open Enrollment Period (AEP) (Oct. 15 – Dec. 7): Time to switch, join, or drop Medicare Advantage (Part C) or Prescription Drug (Part D) plans. Changes take effect Jan. 1.

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (MAOEP) (Jan. 1 – March 31): For those already in a Medicare Advantage plan to switch to a different one or return to Original Medicare.

General Enrollment Period (GEP) (Jan. 1 – March 31): For those who missed their IEP. Coverage begins the month after signing up, but penalties may apply.

Special Enrollment Periods (SEP): Allow changes outside standard times due to specific life events, such as losing employer coverage or moving.
